If anyone wants to read Rousseau's earliest work, this is for you. Like usual, the play has themes about virtue and public duty. I see his main thesis as how to form a society of free, authentic individuals. The play reflects this. He later wrote a preface for the play explaining his views and why he wrote such a play even though he openly attacks arts and sciences. Unfortunately, this is the only translation of the play available in the kindle store. I wish there was a better one.
